JoJo Green’s “Miles Apart” is the breakup anthem 2021 has been waiting for. “Miles Apart” is heavily inspired by the writing style of the late Motown legend, Otis Redding, and exemplifies frustration with letting go, and moving on. “Miles Apart” clearly showcases the proficiency and virtuosity of each musician in this amazing group. Right out of the gate, saxophone and guitar mimic a back-and-forth argument, which pushes the jam to crack open like an egg. Lead singer, Jermaine Germain, in true characteristic, assertive fashion, rips into the subject of her frustration with big voice, and power, stomping around to the percussive rhythm section culminating with a big, cathartic scream, and continuing to explode through a scorched-earth conclusion driven by intense bass runs.
